Homework the Wind Song





Wind song

Read the poem to help answer the questions.

a) Write down eight words the poet has used to describe sounds.

i) Blows
ii) Whisper
iii) Swish
iv) whistle
v) sigh
vi) drum
vii) snap
viii) speak

b) The poet describes some objects as acting like humans, for example "quiet things speak". Find
two more examples of this kind of writing from the poem.

i) Some whisper, some clam.
ii) Grasses swish.


c) In the second line the poet states, "The quiet things speak". Name two "quiet things" from the
poem.

i)  The quiet this are quiet again.
ii) The wind blows.


d) What is shown by the use of the hyphen at the end of the line, "When the wind goes —"?
It means that the word carries on but it moves on to a new line.

e) What two main things happen in the poem?

 i) The wind.
ii)  The quiet things.
